Mining hydraulics – KAMAT plunger pumps and high pressure pump systems for underground operationFor many years KAMAT has been developing and manufacturing plunger pumps and hydraulic stations for underground mining – internationally. KAMAT-Plunger pumps are operating successfully in high performance longwalls especially in the U.S., Australia and in China. In the extraction of coal and mineral, longwall mining is the most efficient mining method. Modern longwall mining uses hydraulic shield support to secure the roof of the coalface.
The increasing length of the longwall, the resulting forces and the hydraulic pressure associated with the cylinder diameters growing, as well as the increasing speed of the extraction machines, place high demands on the hydraulic stations. These have to supply the volume flow of the hydraulic emulsion in the required pressure reliably and at high availability. In mining, water hydraulics are used when an emulsion of a few percent oil in the water is used as lubrication for the hydraulic cylinders. Applications in mining always place high demands on technology. KAMAT plunger pumps are especially suitable due to their robustness and their simple maintenance. Also advantageous, are the performance classes KAMAT offers, as well as the fact that KAMAT-pumps are developed and manufactured especially for pure water. With the KAMAT modular system, the same wear parts are used for different pump sizes. KAMAT high pressure pumps are used in central hydraulic stations, that supply the whole mine, as well as in stations near the longwall that supply the longwall with the necessary hydraulic power. These stations are built on tracks, chains, wheels or hanging from the overhead monorail. For reasons of space, the pumps may be positioned vertically. Typically, pumps with power input from 132 to 350 kW are used in mining. KAMAT offers pumps with up to 550 kW. The installed power of the whole station, are in some cases more than 2,000 kW and include, aside from the hydraulic station, also the use of the KAMAT pumps for dust suppression with water sprays. KAMAT pumps with hydraulic pressures of 350 to 420 bar are best suited for mining: our high pressure pumps are developed for 3,500 bar in continuous operation. |
